Why Black Soldiers Were Barred from Combat (And How Tuskegee Changed Everything)
Why were African Americans excluded from the military for so long? Today, we’re looking at the history of racial segregation in the U.S. Armed Forces and the systemic barriers Black veterans faced from the Civil War through WWII. In this video, we cover: The "Fear of the Armed Citizen" and the origins of military exclusion. My Personal Story Of Fighting On The Front Lines More About Me: www.dkendrickjr.com

Where are the black war heroes?
In this video, I’m diving deep into the representation of African Americans in modern military cinema. We often see the stories of elite units and frontline combatants, but there is a glaring absence of Black men in these starring roles. I explore the "Why" behind this gap, including: The statistical reality of Black men in combat vs. support roles. Why General Colin Powell remains the primary (and often only) household name for Black military leadership. The cultural impact of seeing—or not seeing—ourselves as the "hero" in the foxhole. I also share my personal mission to fix this narrative through my book, Cavalry, and my dream of seeing it adapted into a film that finally gives our community the representation it deserves on the big screen. Why Are Black Military Heroes Invisible? 🪖
Ever noticed a gap in our history books? We often hear about the great battles, but the names of the Black men and women who led them are often left in the shadows. In this video, I’m asking the tough question: Why does it feel like there’s a lack of African American military heroes in our mainstream culture? Coming Soon: I’m dropping a deep dive into the legendary Black heroes you’ve NEVER heard of, and a look at what it means to serve in the military as an African American today. 🔔 Subscribe and hit the bell so you don't miss the full story.

Code-Switching: The Survival Skill Nobody Talks About
In this video, we dive deep into the unspoken rules of communication in Corporate America: Code-Switching. While the term is often discussed as a survival mechanism for Black professionals to navigate white-dominated spaces, there’s another side to the coin—"downward" code-switching or linguistic mirroring. We’re breaking down the psychology, the exhaustion, and the social dynamics behind why we change the way we speak the moment we clock in. What We’re Covering: The "Professional" Mask: Why many Black professionals feel the need to alter their pitch, vocabulary, and accent to be taken seriously or seen as "non-threatening" by white colleagues. The Comfort Gap: How code-switching is often a tool used to make others comfortable at the expense of one’s own authenticity. The Reverse Switch: Analyzing why some white professionals adopt African American Vernacular English (AAVE) or a different persona when trying to "relate" to Black coworkers—and when it crosses the line into cringe or microaggression. The Cost of Constant Shifting: The mental tax and "identity fatigue" that comes with never being able to bring your full self to the office. More about me: www.dkendrickjr.com

Why Documentation is a Mission-Critical Skill: From Combat to Corporate
From the dusty dashboards of Iraq to the executive boardrooms of Corporate America, one habit has saved my career more than any other: Documentation. In this episode of the "Battlefield to Boardroom" series, I show you the actual logbook I kept while driving combat missions in Iraq and explain why those same principles are vital for your business success today. In this video, we cover: The Logbook Legacy: Why tracking every mile in a war zone matters. Seamless Transitions: How documenting customer interactions ensures the mission continues when you aren't there. Risk Management: Using documentation for corrective actions and protecting your organization during terminations. The bottom line: If it isn't written down, it didn't happen. Beyond the Uniform: The Hidden History of Race in the Military
"The enemy doesn't discriminate, so why should we?" In the military, we are taught that there is no black or white—only light green and dark green. But the path to that "green" brotherhood was paved by those who fought two wars at once: one against a foreign enemy, and one against prejudice at home. In this video, I’m diving deep into the history of segregation and racism within the Armed Forces, highlighting the resilience of those who served before us and sharing my own journey as a soldier and author. 📜 What We’re Covering: The Tuskegee Airmen: The legendary pilots who broke the "color barrier" in the sky. The Women of the 6888th: The only all-Black, all-female battalion to serve overseas during WWII. The Buffalo Soldiers: The trailblazers who defined bravery on the Western frontier. Personal Reflections: I share my own experiences with racism in the ranks and read an excerpt from my book, Cavalry. 🤝 The Real Bond I close this video with a story close to my heart—my wedding day. It’s a reflection on my old unit and a testament to the fact that when the smoke clears, the bond between soldiers transcends skin color. It’s about the brotherhood formed in the foxhole that lasts a lifetime. 📖 Support the Channel & My Work: Get my book, Cavalry: https://www.amazon.com/Cavalry-Soldiers-David-Kendrick-Jr/dp/B08XY43PRS Subscribe for more veterans' stories and historical deep dives. 💬 Join the Conversation: What does "the bond of service" mean to you? When a Crisis Becomes Fatal: Daniel Olsen, PTSD, and the Gap in Law Enforcement Training
The story of Daniel Olsen is a heartbreaking reminder of what happens when a mental health crisis meets a system unprepared to handle it. In this video, we examine the fatal shooting of veteran Daniel Olsen in Coweta County, Georgia. We go beyond the headlines to discuss the unique mental health challenges facing the veteran community, including the complexities of PTSD and the "invisible wounds" of war. We also take a deep dive into Georgia House Bill 1013. This landmark legislation seeks to bridge the gap between law enforcement and mental health emergencies, ensuring that those in crisis receive treatment rather than a death sentence. What We Cover: The timeline of the Daniel Olsen incident. The psychological triggers that lead to veteran mental health emergencies. The current state of law enforcement training regarding PTSD. How the Georgia 1013 Bill changes the landscape of mental health advocacy and crisis intervention. I am dedicated to sharing this message with veterans' organizations, law enforcement agencies, and community leaders. If you are looking for an insightful, lived-experience perspective on veteran advocacy and mental health reform, I’d love to speak at your event. Topics Include: - De-escalation and Veteran-Specific Crisis Intervention. - Navigating the VA and State Mental Health Systems. - The Human Impact of Mental Health Legislation.
